First Aid training for Young Leaders/Explorers 1st Response is a training package designed to help members of the Scout Association build up their confidence and skills to cope with an incident. Incidents can happen at any time and it is important for Young Leaders to know what to do and what their limitations are.A minimum of 6 hours is needed to cover the syllabus and on completion of the course a certificate is issued and must be renewed every three years. HEAT's First Aid school run's First response course's mainly for Young Leader and Explorers. Course's will be run at Cricket Camp and will cost £5.00 Course dates.

What is Bush Craft??
"Bushcraft" is a long-term extension of survival skills. A
popular term for wilderness skills in Australia and South Africa, the
term was popularised in the northern hemisphere by Mors Kochanski and
recently gained considerable currency in the United Kingdom due to the
popularity of Ray Mears and his bushcraft and survival television
programmes. Bushcraft is about surviving and thriving in the natural environment, and the acquisition of skills and knowledge to do so. Bushcraft skills include; firecraft, tracking, shelter building, the use of tools such as knives and axes, foraging, hand-carving wood, container construction from natural materials, rope and twine-making, and many others. What can we offer you??? We can offer simple evening sessions right through to a full weekend camp. Why not try a evening of fire lighting???? How many different ways can you light a fire???? we cover the following topics: FireCraft Tracking Shelter Building Hand-carving Rope making Wild food Cooking on open Fires Sleep in a tepee (6 available) Safe use of axes, saws and knives

Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Expedition Programme Operating under HEAT, a specific programme will be run from September 2009 to Easter 2010.
During this period we will provide training in all elements required as part of the GOLD expedition, organise one local practice hike to evaluate navigation skills and a minimum of one practice expedition prior to the actual expedition itself.
Places are limited to 21 on a first come first served basis, if you wish to register for a place download the application form at the bottom of the page and email back to dofegold@heatsu.org.uk
We will meet once a fortnight on a Wednesday evening at Cricket Camp. There will be a subscription fee associated with covering the cost of the venue of £ 2.00 per person per meeting. The cost for practice and expedition will be priced on a none profit basis. HEAT Explorers will move to a wednesday evening and meet at Cricket Camp from 7pm – 9pm.
They will now be known as Bushcraft Explorers and be part of Itchen South District.
